Robyn Spoon

Robyn Spoon

Elevate Founder & CEO

Meet Robyn!

Advocacy, human development and solving “messy” problems have been at the core of Robyn’s professional and personal endeavors!

After over a decade of a career in real estate and construction, Robyn returned to her education roots to expand on her BS in Elementary Education from Indiana University to earn a Certificate in College Counseling from UCLA, a Master’s in Executive Development for Public Service from Ball State University, and she is now in the final stretch to earn a PhD in Educational Psychology. In addition to teaching undergraduate courses, Robyn has been published in a range of trade and professional journals on topics ranging from twice-exceptionalism to helping young people develop into creative problem-solvers. Throughout her career, Robyn has served in a range of leadership positions on nonprofit boards at the local, state, national and international levels.

After her son Justin was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma at 21, Robyn switched gears and founded Elevate Childhood Cancer Research and Advocacy, dedicated to saving and improving the lives of those diagnosed with childhood cancer.  Robyn is married to Joel,  mom to three young adults, and finds joy in problem solving and advocacy in all areas of her life.

Chris Osborne

Chris Osborne

Elevate Board Chair

Meet Chris!

Chris has worked in the non-profit sector for close to 20 years.  He has been a secondary social studies teacher, varsity soccer coach, & business owner.  The common thread throughout Chris’ career has been teaching & advocacy. As Vice-President of Program for FIRST Indiana Robotics, Chris worked with students, robotics teams, & legislative leaders to pass House Bill 1382 which has brought $3.5 Million a year to Indiana K-12 Schools for competitive robotics.

Chris plans to take his experience of board service, organizational leadership, & advocacy skills to this new role as chair of Elevate.  “I believe this organization is poised to take the lead in helping research institutions to get more therapies into phase one clinical trials. Childhood cancer research is severely underfunded, children & their families can’t wait any longer for better treatment options.

Besides a passion for youth serving organizations & volunteerism, Chris likes to read, play board games with friends & family, & enjoys a good movie.

Ryan Spoon

Ryan Spoon

Elevate Co-Founder & Vice Chair

Meet Ryan!

Ryan is entering his final year at Indiana University and getting a B.A. in English with a concentration in creative writing and a Minor in Arts Management. Ryan was 18 years old and a freshman in college when his brother Justin, 21 at the time, and a senior in college was diagnosed with cancer. Ryan saw firsthand the devastating effects of Rhabdomyosarcoma, not just on his brother but how it impacted his entire family, his whole life.

“We need passionate people involved, & that means finding people who care not because of something that happened to them, but people who just care. Not only is my mission to save others, but it is to help spread the word & find people who want to help because it is the right thing to do. I probably would never have gotten involved in something like this if I hadn’t experienced the tragedy firsthand, which is unfortunately true of most people involved in not just Elevate, but all childhood cancer-related charities. Leading by an example he will give insight into the harsh reality of childhood cancer, but also how we can move forward to change the future course for those diagnosed. Far too many young people are affected by childhood cancers, like Rhabdomyosarcoma, & it’s time we stand up for more effective, less harsh options and learn how to make this happen together.”

In his free time, Ryan enjoys playing Dungeons and Dragons with his friends, as well as skateboarding, reading, and writing. He also loves to write and perform music, singing and playing guitar, ukulele, and a dash of piano.

Joel Spoon

Joel Spoon

Elevate Co-Founder & CFO

Meet Joel!

After earning a college degree from Indiana University, Joel founded his first successful business, Spoon Construction at the age of 25, which is a custom residential design/build firm. He immediately took on significant community leadership by serving as the President of the Tri-County Builders Association. His duties included organizing the local “Home Show” for many years. During the first decade of his career, Joel received many awards for his acclaimed custom home designs and builds. Since those early days, Joel has expanded his work to include real estate sales and development, having successfully developed four neighborhoods in Columbus, Indiana.

Meanwhile, Joel took his role as “dad” seriously by coaching children’s recreational flag and tackle football and soccer and also enjoyed founding and managing the Columbus Adult Flag Football League for many years. Joel serves as the Chief Financial Chair for Elevate Childhood Cancer Research and Advocacy, as a way to impact the future for those diagnosed with childhood cancer.

Elevate Board Director

Amy Meinch

Amy Meinch

Elevate Board Secretary

Meet Amy!

Amy brings experience from a variety of small businesses she launched the last 2 decades in hospitality, the food industry, and individualized childcare, later transitioning to caregiver in her own family which led to the new role as a home educator.

When her daughter, Kalina, was diagnosed with a Wilms (kidney) tumor, at age 5 her life was transformed and once again had to be reinvented. This led to a shift that included starting a network of advocates online, within her own community and founding a new campaign fondly known as ‘Main Street USA’ when September and Childhood Cancer Awareness month rolls around. She has harnessed the power of her community in being champions for this cause that flew under the radar just a few years ago. Now the communities surrounding her are joining forces as they see government, law enforcement and other municipal services collaborate with local enterprises to be agents for change for those diagnosed with childhood cancer.

Having navigated diverse fields and repeatedly forgerd her own path lends a creative and entreprneurial mindsest that will benefit Elevate. Her blend of creativity and extensive experience engaging with individuals at various levels enhance her suitability for the role as Elevate’s Board Secretary.

The allure of water and the outdoors beckon her to locations unreached by cellular technology as frequently as possible, where the companionship of family, simplicity of camping and joy of reading are the only things necessary!
